To throw it out or recycle - that is the question

I have been cleaning out drawers, cupboards and shelves this week and found a lot of stuff just taking up space not only in the spaces but also in my head. We tend to have emotional attachments to possessions which realistically we will never use again.
The decision is -Do we LOVE it too much to throw out or just hanging on to it because it may come in handy one day.
Well here is the crux of the matter - as a quilter I have a predisposition for re purposing ( 2013 terminology) so saving things comes naturally. I have decided to have a "Treasures" box for those little things I just can't part with, like gifts from the children, grandchildren and special pieces from friends. I have gone through the hundreds of greeting cards and only kept the particularly pretty and\or special ones - that was hard.
Paper was the next area to attack. All the magazines have been reviewed and recycled, some kept for future reference - plenty of room for more now - and filing done and dusted.

Now that is all done I not only have a clean studio but a clearer head as well. I have gotten in touch with everything in my work area so can lay my hands on anything in an instant which will make the creative process flow a lot easier.
There was also the wonderful discoveries in particular a drawing from 2006 that looked so much like my current body of work the "Analysis' series. It's quite amazing to see that the idea you thought was so new was percolating in the background long ago - damn  - an argument for keeping things.

 - shame I'm still quilting that pink quilt - could be working on the prequel - Steven Spielberg eat your heart out. Oh well!!!!!

Marking your quilts for quilting

I saw a post on Facebook about Glad Press and seal - a product no longer readily available in Australia but it can be picked up at any store selling American supplies.
I have used this in the past with great success. I try to use a marker just a couple of shades darker than the fabric because the black does migrate sometimes. I also discovered by accident that hovering a hot iron close to the surface - (or on if you are brave ) actually dissolves the last of the plastic and there don't seem to be any fumes to deal with either. A great method to add to you marking repertoire.

Computers and quilting collide

Well, I feel like I have been attached to this chair for far too long now. My CV is finally redone after putting it off for far too long (a bit like my first attempt at blogging). It's amazing to see what has been achieved over a period of time and how my quilting has grown and evolved. I do so much more intense quilting now than I used to.
With our quilt group's first show in 2 weeks I am feeling a bit time poor but if I manage my time properly there will be a few precious stitching moments slotted in here and there for sure.
I'm off now to have a cuppa and a quiet sit for just  minute.

After a crazy year I am now back in the blogging world. I have had a few invaluable tips from my friend Helen and am ready to let you all see what I have been up to.
